About

Who is the Lady With A Hat?

She’s a middle-aged busybody who knows what’s best for you and isn’t afraid to say so. She’s not your friend, and she doesn’t care what you think about her.

What is this blog?

It’s an experiment of sorts. I’m going to provide answers to questions about life, relationships, money, parenting, finances, … basically any statement that even  looks like it might be answerable in advice-form (i.e., “I’m going to tell you what to do”). But I’m going to focus on questions that are not directed at me. They may be stolen from advice columnists or overheard in a grocery store or heard on the evening news. Let’s see if the person who asked the original question stumbles across my answer!

Why should I listen to you?

You shouldn’t need to listen to me. You really ought to be able to make life decisions on your own. But you can’t always do that, because you lack perspective. That is to say, you are unable to tell where you stand in relation to your surroundings. You are, as we say in the biz, too close to the situation. That’s why you need me to tell you what’s what and who’s who.

What are your qualifications?

I’ve been alive longer than you, so therefore I know more than you do. The end.
